Bifidobacterium longum 1714

A psychobiotic strain developed by PrecisionBiotics. Unlike JB-1, it has shown positive signals in healthy humans: it attenuates cortisol reactivity to acute stress and improves perceived daily stress and sleep quality.

Acute stress in healthy humans

↓ Reactive cortisol

4 weeks of 1×10^9 CFU/day in 22 healthy people: attenuates the rise in cortisol and subjective anxiety during the 'socially evaluated cold pressor test'. Reduction in reported daily stress. One of the few psychobiotics with a positive human signal.

Modest improvement

Double-blind RCT 2024: 6 weeks of the strain improves subjective sleep quality and well-being indices in healthy adults vs placebo.

Acute social stress (EEG)

improves Low-moderate pilot RCT (A)
Electrophysiological effect

The strain modulates brain activity (EEG) during acute social stress, consistent with an anxiolytic effect. Small samples.

Positive human translation

Example with the best human translation among psychobiotics. Useful profile in stressed healthy populations; effect in clinical disorders awaits trials.
