A prodrug of dexamfetamine (Elvanse/Vyvanse) for ADHD; increases the release of dopamine and norepinephrine. Long-acting stimulant.
As a prodrug, it is converted in the body into dextroamphetamine, which increases the release and reduces the reuptake of dopamine and norepinephrine, improving sustained attention.
Very effective on the core symptoms; the prodrug formulation aims for a prolonged action and a lower relative potential for abuse. It is used when a long-acting stimulant is preferred.
Same cardiovascular and sleep/appetite precautions as other stimulants, with control because of its potential for misuse. Indication and adjustment are always a medical matter.
