In practice

It depends on the case; there is no single guideline.

Precautions

Do not recommend alcohol; polyphenols are also in grapes/non-alcoholic juice

Effect by goal · level of evidence

Gut microbiota and endotoxin

improves microbiota (preliminary) Low trial (crossover RCT, n=10) (A)

Chronic red wine consumption increased bifidobacteria and Prevotella, correlated with less endotoxin (LPS) in blood, due to its polyphenols. DEALCOHOLIZED wine had a similar effect: the benefit comes from the polyphenols, NOT the alcohol. Small study (n=10) and no significant net change in LPS.
