Hyperthyroidism is the opposite: the thyroid produces too much hormone and metabolism speeds up: weight loss, tachycardia, nervousness, tremor, sweating, insomnia, and heat intolerance. It is detected with low TSH (and high T4/T3). The most common cause is Graves' disease.
Important: it requires medical diagnosis and treatment (antithyroid drugs, radioactive iodine, or surgery); it is not managed with supplements.
Nutritional nuance: unlike hypothyroidism, here excess iodine can make it worse, so iodine supplementation is not indicated. Selenium has been studied in Graves' orbitopathy.
