Hypothyroidism is the condition in which the thyroid produces too little hormone (T4/T3) and metabolism slows down: tiredness, weight gain, feeling cold, dry skin, constipation, hair loss, mental slowness, and low mood. It is detected with high TSH (and low T4).
Important: it is diagnosed and treated clinically; the reference treatment is levothyroxine. What is covered here are nutritional factors that modulate it, not substitutes.
Levers: correct the deficiency of iodine (a cause in deficient regions; its excess also harms) and of selenium; iron is needed for hormone synthesis. In Hashimoto's, selenium may lower antibodies.
