Chelation is the capture of metal ions by molecules (chelators) that form with them a stable complex that can be excreted in urine. It is the established treatment of confirmed heavy metal poisoning: calcium disodium EDTA and DMSA (succimer) for lead, DMSA/DMPS for mercury and arsenic, deferoxamine for iron overload. It is done only with confirmed toxic levels and under medical supervision.
Outside of poisoning, the evidence is poor: in heart disease after a heart attack the TACT trial (2013) showed a modest benefit that the authors themselves did not consider sufficient, and TACT2 (2024) did not confirm it. As a general detox or against cancer there is no evidence, and disodium EDTA has caused deaths from hypocalcemia. See the Chelation (EDTA/DMSA) profile and the Heavy metals goal.
