The hormonal (or endocrine) system is the network of glands that makes hormones —chemical messengers that travel through the blood— to coordinate functions throughout the body: metabolism, growth, reproduction, stress, sleep, and mood. It acts more slowly than the nervous system but with broad and sustained effects.
On this map it is a central pathway that connects with sex hormones, insulin and glucose, cortisol, thyroid hormones, melatonin, and the HPA axis, and with many metabolic and wellness goals. Sleep, diet, exercise, and stress management are the levers that most influence hormonal balance.
